The Beginning

The only state association created and led by hospital leaders, MHA was incorporated July 1, 1970. The association launched as a forum for cooperation and communication among the state's major health care providers.

The association has its roots in the 1940s, when a group of hospital leaders met to discuss challenges—primarily those facing Baltimore hospitals. The group, then known as the Hospital Council of Maryland, later expanded to address hospital needs statewide.
