The Beginning

The only state association created and led by hospital leaders, MHA was incorporated July 1, 1970. The association launched as a forum for cooperation and communication among the state's major health care providers.

The association has its roots in the 1940s, when a group of hospital leaders met to discuss challenges—primarily those facing Baltimore hospitals. The group, then known as the Hospital Council of Maryland, later expanded to address hospital needs statewide.

LEADERSHIP

“MHA’s Executive Committee includes leaders from hospitals across the state who work together to chart a path to improved hospitals and health care in Maryland,” says Harry Johnson, chair of MHA’s Executive Committee and partner at Whiteford Taylor Preston LLP. “MHA and its governing body are extremely proud to support caregivers statewide. This year has been particularly trying for our communities and it’s a pleasure represent our health care heroes . We appreciate their vigilance and the over 14,000 lives they’ve saved from COVID.”
