Maryland has a physician shortage. MHA and MedChi, Maryland's medical society, conducted a physician workforce study in 2007 to determine the supply of physicians in Maryland and to project future supplies. The goals of the study included:
- An in-depth analysis of current and future physician supply
- Consensus about the next steps needed to maintain Maryland's competitive physician workforce environment
- Ways to maintain a physician workforce sufficient to provide Marylanders with access to care.
