Hospitals, Caregivers, and Volunteers Helped Marylanders Weather the Storms

February 16, 2010

Stores, office buildings and roads closed, but not Maryland’s hospitals. When the recent severe snow storms locked down the rest of the state, doctors, nurses, other caregivers, and volunteers made sure that patients continued to get the care they need. For many that meant more than multiple shifts … it meant days away from home as they slept at the hospital or at hotels a short distance away. For armies of four-wheel vehicle drivers, it meant risking their own lives to make sure patients and caregivers got to and from the hospital. For other hospital staff it meant working throughout the storm to keep the power on, the sidewalks shoveled and the supplies available.

These and other stories of the Storms of 2010 are featured at the MHA Web site, www.mhaonline.org. We invite you to take a look, and perhaps contact your local hospital to get their storm story directly.
