The Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) and MedChi, the state’s medical society, today applauded a Maryland Appeals Court decision that preserves the state’s longstanding cap on non-economic damages on most medical liability cases. “This important decision confirms the Maryland legislature’s intent to ensure that people’s needs are met without allowing a lottery-like system’s limitless awards to hurt hospitals’ ability to continue important health care services,” said Carmela Coyle, President and CEO of MHA.
